Mick Pyro joined a host of Irish musical talent on Monday last to record a tribute to legend Ronnie Drew who founded the seminal Irish folk group The Dubliners. For decades, Ronnie Drew has been at the heart of Irish music and culture and on Monday night an eclectic mix of Irish artists turned out in their droves to show their respect and admiration for the man.
‘The Ballad of Ronnie Drew’ was written by Robert Hunter (Grateful Dead lyricist) The Edge, Bono, and Simon Carmody.
It’s been a real gathering of the Irish musical tribe,’ says Carmody. ‘It was like we were paying tribute to our elder, our leader Ronnie Drew.
Other artists who contributed included: Paul Brady, Moya Brennan, Gavin Friday, Mary Coughlan, Andrea Corr, Billy McGuinness (Aslan), Bronagh Gallagher, Chris de Burgh, Sinead O’Connor, Duke Special, Eleanor McEvoy, Paddy Casey, Eleanor Shanley, Glen Hansard, Christy Dignam (Aslan), Iona Green, Jack L, Jerry Fish, Mundy, Joe Elliott, Mary Black, Christy Moore, Shane MacGowan, Bob Geldof, Damien Dempsey, Declan O’Rourke, Brian Kennedy, The Dubliners and The Chieftains.
