Republic of Loose have just returned from Baltimore in the US where they have been recording their fourth album. When asked what kind of music the band were listening to and would be referencing on this album, Mik Pyro replied “Mostly club. Blaqstarr is great. Also DJ Booman, Rod Lee, DJ Scotty B, Tittsworth, K-Swift R.I.P.,Murder Mark, and also people like Dwizz and Emynd and Dj Sega. We have also been influenced of late by Washington Go- Go music, particularly of the latter Slow Bounce variety, bands like Total Control Band and Game- Ova band. Kuduro from Lisbon and Angola, early Miami bass, Funk Carioca, and the great Kid 606. also people like John Tejada from Europe and traditional Irish music”.
The as yet untitled album is loosely scheduled for a September release. Stay tuned for more details…

Hip-Hop artist Styles P has penned his first novel ‘Invincible’. Published by One World/Ballantine to rave reviews in the US, the novel is accompanied by a soundtrack album. Republic of Loose have contributed a new song for the soundtrack entitled ‘Late’.

Tickets are now on sale for Northern Ireland’s first ‘boutique’ Festival, The Willowstone Arts and Music Festival, taking place in the idyllic setting of the Delamont Country Park on the outskirts of Killyleagh on Saturday 27th June. In what promises to be the first of its kind, The Willowstone Festival will feature a full-day of local and international artists, workshops and fun events for all ages set to a backdrop of music from some of the best bands performing today.
Fresh from their Meteor Music Award nominations and the release of a new single, Republic Of Loose will headline the main stage on the day. Billed as ‘the best band in Ireland’ the ‘Loose will be going on to support U2 after their Willowstone appearance and they lead an exciting line-up which comprises of top Northern Ireland bands Ed Zealous, Panama Kings, the NI Soul Troop and Heliopause.
The Delamont Walled Garden will be transformed into an entertainment park for the Willowstone Festival as London based artist Francis Barking will dress the Garden with his unique art installations which double as interactive games and artist/inventor Paddy Bloomer will present his “Sacry-Go-Round” Funfair. The Festival coincides with the 10 year anniversary of the Strangford Millennium Stone and so Welig Crafts have sculpted a 5metre high replica of the Strangford Stone in the very centre of the Walled Garden. Everyone is welcome to take part in the game design, basket making and other workshops held by Welig Crafts along with the other artists taking part in the Festival.
The inaugural Willowstone Arts and Music Festival offers the most fun day out in Northern Ireland this summer. Should the excitement become too much for anyone, the Hilden Brewing Company will be on hand to provide refreshments in their unique Teepee bar. The Trouble makers, featuring Mik and Dave Pyro with members of Horslips, Blizzards, Kila and Kevin Godley amoungst others have recorded a version of the classic Horslips track ‘Trouble with a capital T’ in aid of the Irish Youth Foundation as part of the Raw Sessions with Sony Ericsson interactive music television series. The Trouble Makers will perform the track on the Late Late Show this Friday, 22nd May.
The track will be made available to download from www.therawsessions.ie immediately after the show.

Republic of Loose release their new single ‘The Ritual’ tomorrow on iTunes and all other download platforms in Ireland. This is the third track to be lifted from the bands new album ‘VOL IV:Johnny Pyro And The Dance Of Evil, and is the follow up to the song of the summer ‘The Steady Song’.

Republic of Loose played their fifth show of the year at The Academy in Dublin last Thursday. This was the only Dublin gig on the bands nationwide tour and their first Academy show since the release of their album ‘VOL IV:Johnny Pyro And The Dance Of Evil’ Having sold out well in advance, with hundreds turned away at the door, those lucky enough to get a ticket were treated to a two hour set comprising of material from the bands three albums. The band are well known for bringing special guests onstage for their Dublin gigs, with Sinead O’Connor and Damien Dempsey joining the Loose at their Academy shows in April. On Thursday, the audience were treated to a surprise appearence by Shane MacGowan. Shane arrived onstage for the encore, joining the Loose on the Stones classic ‘Honky Tonk Woman’ followed by the Pogues calssic ‘Fiesta’

The Loose rap up their Irish tour over the next two weeks with shows at Cyprus Avenue Cork on Oct 1st, The Late Lounge Kill, Co. Kildare on Oct 2nd, The Hot Press Expo RDS Dublin on Oct 5th, Roumors Macroom, Co. Cork on Oct 9th and The Trinity Rooms on Oct 10th.
